On August 17^th, 2016, at the invitation of Shenzhen Institute of Advanced Integration Technology, Professor Okyay Kaynak from Bogazici University came to Shenzhen Institutes of Advanced Technology Chinese Academy of Science for academic communication. Professor Kaynak made a presentation on the topic of “Science, Technology and Industry in 21^st Century”, and Kai He, the director of CPE, held the lecture.

Professor Kaynak received the B.Sc degree with first class honors and Ph.D. degrees in Electronic Engineering from University of Birmingham, UK, in 1969 and 1972 respectively. Now he is a full professor in the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Bogazici University, Turkey. His current research interests are in the field of intelligent control and mechatronics. He has authored three books and more than 400 papers. Professor Kaynak served as the Editor-in-Chief of IEEE/ASME Trans. Mechatronics.

This presentation discussed the profound technological changes during the last 2 decades, and highlighted the great impact of multi-subject information crossing on technology development. Besides, he also discussed the efforts of USA and China in relation to Industry 4.0. Later, Professor Kaynak introduced the new-developed big data and cyber physical systems, supported by new disruptive advances both on software and hardware side. Finally, Professor Kaynak discussed the industry changes, together with the paradigm change from industrial electronics to industrial informatics and finally to cyber physical systems. All the staff of CPE listened to the presentation.
